LEAK-MILITARY DOCUMENTS

MERKEL-RUSSIA-NATO

German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned against too rapid rapprochement between NATO and Russia. She believes that it is too early to talk about the integration of Russia into NATO, but rather we should speak of a "strategic partnership in specific projects." Merkel said this after a meeting in Berlin with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. In turn, Rasmussen has urged Moscow to take part in joint development of missile defense system. Rasmussen also said that over the past year relations between the alliance and Russia have improved significantly. He named a number of areas in which both sides can collaborate successfully, including the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, as well as in Afghanistan.
